Cleast Eatwood – Electric Feel

by Reece

Wow on this, big wow folks. Cleast Eatwood – have really stripped back this cover of everyone’s favourite, MGMT’s Electric Feel. I had to let my girl listen to it just to hear her reaction; “It’s fantastic.”  I’ll let her review speak for mine. Download

NightWaves – Fascination (Cavaliers Of Fun Remix)

by Reece

Sexy fun. Fun sexy. That’s how I’d describe NightWaves – Kyle & Josh from LA. You kind of feel like you’re back in the ’80s. Only you’ve got mascara on your pubes and

in your pockets. Okay, maybe it’s nothing like that. But the sultry lyrics from opening till then bed thumping bassline; this track hits it and doesn’t stop. COF doesn’t hurt one bit either, bringing the best of the original out and ripping the chorus a new one. Pick this one up and let loose when you want to get close with that special someone. “You – you fascinating thing you come to me. You wander ‘cross the dance floor like a dream. Your shallow sullen eyes look desperately for someone and I brush up against your back with fingertips and think about your taste around my lips. Your body’s playing games I’ll never win. I remember when I was…”

Broken Social Scene – World Sick

by Reece

I wouldn’t be much of a pop music blogger if I didn’t give some time to this. Broken Social Scene – the group that has for the past decade or so set the benchmark for every indie collaboration effort heard today. Having been five years since their last release under (the original moniker of) BSS one might ask, ‘Do they still have it?’ Well hypothetical question asker, yes – yes they do. In the same soundscape as their last release’ amazing tracks Major Label Debut and It’s All Gonna Break, World Sick floats in quietly and before you know it the catchy guitar licks have you bopping your head and Drew’s voice has you swaying from side to side. It does for me at least. Download the first taste of the promising Forgiveness Rock Record

Pearl And The Beard – Oh, Death!

by Reece

So this floated into my inbox the other day and (unfortunately) I only just got around to listening, worth the wait I tell you. Pearl and the Beard – are Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy from NYC and they bring good times to the table in the form of great vocal harmony, sparse yet strong guitar-work and a cello as unforgiving as the tale they tell. This masterpiece off God Bless Your Weary Soul, Amanda Richardson could hold it’s own as the end-note to any epic-movie montage, (I’m thinking Forrest Gump, or maybe that’s just the southern soul coming through in the vocals). They’re on their way down to SXSW with some stops along the way. Make your ears happy and download

We Have Band – Honeytrap (Co-Pilots’ Flying High Edit)

by Reece

Thanks in large to RCRDLBL. We Have Band – are Darren, Dede and Thomas from London and they play into that cushy electro pop-rock pocket you love to snuggle into on the bus with your shades down and your ipod max’d. This would be part of your stock standard party mix but with Russell Lissack (Bloc Party) and Jamie Ellis from (now defunct) Battle teaming up to Co-Pilot it into awesome-town, re-evaluation was in order. Drink it in, you’ll need to take it a couple of times round. They’re set to release their debut album in April, if you can’t wait download the mix here.

Library Voices – Drinking Games

by Reece

As pop as you’ll find here @ a-life. Library Voices – not sure if there’s eight or ten members of this band but they’ve formed some perfectly uncluttered melody in this, their single off their upcoming (April) release Denim on Denim, look out for it. They hail from the Canadialand capital of Saskatchewan, Regina which boasts it’s main pulling feature as an artificial lake and bridge over said artificial lake. Cool stuff that. “She’s not one for lies, but she’ll sure stretch the truth; it’s the way that she smiles and winks ’til you’re red in the cheeks, yeah. Until you’re saying that you love bands that you can’t stand; it’s the way that she drinks like she’s cursed, and she’s dancing to The Cure”
