Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric (Acoustic)

by Reece

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

So they released the deluxe version of It’s Blitz! and with it this delicate four minute moment performed by Karen O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase on what sounds like a jangly tambourine (not sure who’s on the violin). I always liked this song, really enjoyed hearing it performed live with my baby but this acoustic rendition makes it step off the pages like it never did before. Download this sweet piece

Cults – Go Outside

by Reece

Cults

Sometimes hype can be a very good thing. Take Cults for example, noone had made much noise about them until twenty days ago when GvsB posted about these unknowners making some beautiful music. Now they’re all over the blogosphere, and with goood reason. I really dig this track, it’s so cheery how couldn’t you? And they’re giving it away for free – a sign of a true artists. Download your lost summer-camp love

Ernest Gonzales – Dancing In The Snow

by Reece

Ernest Gonzales

Couldn’t have pulled a better pose Ernest Gonzales, that’s exactly how I’d imagine you’d look playing this song. Melodramatic? For sure. But that’s exactly what he’s aiming for. I can’t get enough of it though.

He says he’s experimental, laying beatboxing on synths that sound like the love child of The Radio Dept. and a mythical Cloud Cult B-Side. Sounding like how you feel when you can’t get to sleep, when there’s something on your mind. Ernest’s label is running a remix/mashup contest over at his new release’ website Been Meaning To Tell You, go have a look. But before you do download this gem

Snoop Dogg Feat. Kid Cudi – That Tree (Clockwork Remix)

by Reece

Snoop Dogg

The party anthem for the week goes to old favourite Snoop Dogg with Kid Cudi and That Tree mixed superbly by Clockwork. All the best of the original and all that low grimey sound I just can’t get enough of. This was made for the clubs.

It’s great to see that longevity in mainstream music doesn’t mean a tired charade of what once was – Snoop, keeping it relevant and going with Diplo to produce was just one of his many master touches. Love what Cudi brings too towards the half way mark where the bass bounces on the end of his hooks. Perfect track, can’t fault anything about it. Download

Everything I’m having, no it ain’t necessity, though I’m shinin’ keep on grindin’, what you see ain’t all of me. Though I keep them hoes don’t love them hoes, so cold in which I roll – It’s so simple what I need, y’know I keep my fam and I can’t forget that tree

Freelance Whales – Generator ^ First Floor

by Reece

Freelance Whales

This takes a while to get going but it’s beautiful when it does. If you’re into The Postal Service or even a little Owl City then try Freelance Whales on for size. More organic than the synthy bee-bop of the later and that’s welcome for sure. It’s a modest round of harmonies that lead into the crescendo and by that time you’ve forgotten how soft it had all started.

They’re from Queens in NYC, they enjoy playing their music and I doubt they’d mind me sharing that with you. So download the pleaseantries and have a listen

My Gold Mask & Roxy Music – Bitches (The Hood Internet Remix)

by Reece

My Gold Mask

Take one legendary mashup artist, add the dirtiest bassline from the seventies and sprinkle with the hype that is My Gold Mask and you get this. I just love the fact that Hood left the sax in untouched, I think that made the original. Would have been great to have a little Brian Ferry cameo but then I’m asking too much.

So what about these two, Gretta Rochelle & Jack Armondo (cool names no?) they’re from Chicago and released their latest EP earlier this year which you can go and grab from their bandcamp page. If this tickled your fancy and you’re down South atm then hitup SXSW as they’re playing a few shows. Download the mix

Kakadu Crew – Jabiru

Kakadu Crew

Check it out, my little cousins from up in Jabiru, NT and they’re doing hip hop. Crazy. They call themselves the Kakadu Crew and this is pretty catchy, and cute. Download the song

Marina & the Diamonds – I Am Not A Robot (Passion Pit Remix)

by Reece

Marina & the Diamonds

Reblogged with love from TILT – I don’t know if when I see two artists that I love collaborating that I instantly convince myself that the outcome’s going to be great or that it just usually is. Either way, I’d say this warrants any preemptive critique that could have been on the way. Marina & the Diamonds meets Passion Pit with one of my favourite tracks off of The Family Jewels and it does not disappoint.

Forget the long post and just have a listen

Eternal Summers – Able To

by Reece

Eternal Summers

So this is cute. Eternal Summers – are Nicole and Daniel from Virginia in the US of A. They’re a real garage-sounding duo but there’s some glorious melodies interwoven between the fret buzz, kick drum and feedback. I love it, very raw and I’d imagine they’d sound a lot live like they do on this recording. Which is great, because it’s fucking catchy.

They’re playing SXSW so be sure to catch them at one of their shows if you’ll be there and their self titled E.P. will be released on vinyl within the week. Download this song

Lupe Fiasco – What U Want

by Reece

Lupe Fiasco

Slowing it down here at a-life with Lupe Fiasco, the Chicago hip hop artist with a vision, or style – whatever you’d call it. Listening in you can tell he’s put a lot into this, it’s so smooth you could set it as the backdrop to any scene. Look out for it in your next Hollywood blockbuster over-hyped piece of shit movie. Yes, I’m done.

I think I like it most because I don’t have to listen so hard to comprehend the lyrics, and they’re not shallow, unlike the subject of the song. It’s a simple composition but it doesn’t feel unfinished, even though it’s not released yet. Look out for Lasers on the horizon but for now download this gem
