My hallelujah brewing machine’s on fire

by Reece

Marco Mahler

Island shores plucking guitar work with underindulgent electro percussion covered lightly with low register, soft, breathy vocals – think Postal Service meets Jack Johnson. I have really enjoyed Marco‘s Laptop Campfire Speed and if I wasn’t so tired I’d give this interestingly different music a proper review. Just know this: he’s good.

His Clancyness

Once from the lovely land of Ottawa, Canada – monsieur Jonathan Clancy or His Clancyness now resides in the northern lands of Italy. This from his Always Mist latest release which is getting good words left, right and centre. I stumbled upon him trying to find some more artists like Wild Nothing so if that’s your cup of tea try these relaxed chords, lullaby vocals and dreamy arrangements. He’s playing some shows towards the end of July but for now

Thunder Power

Just found these guys from Hype machines popular list which is a pretty good if you’re looking for something different to your usual tastes but still relatively awesome (as far as the consensus of internet popularity goes). These guys are from Omaha Nebraska and call themselves Thunder Power. Anyway, to cut this really short they are a poppy folk outfit kind of in the same vein as Belle & Sebastian, yeah a little twee.

French Kicks

I was reading this and laughing which led me to reading this and fondly recalling the Kicks and their beautiful music and then I decided to share.  I don’t believe the guys are up to anything collaboratively at the moment, they all seem to be doing their own solo things. So no tour info but we do have a healthy course of

I lose myself everytime

by Reece

teenagersintokyo

Three and a half minutes of new wave from Sydneysiders teenagersintokyo ticks all the boxes for an  adrenaline injection of Shiny Toy Guns quality riffs and vocals – and I do enjoy me some STGs. This track is off their self titled EP available here and also on their debut LP Sacrifice being released on their UK label. By the by, check this awesome video to the title track opening their website – both beautiful and brutal. They’re currently doing the European thing so go check ‘em out if you can, and

Loud is here//the bells are ringin

by Reece

Sleigh Bells

Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss are Sleigh Bells – and Sleigh Bells are awesome. These are a pair of facts, use them with caution when listening to this dream crunk mess of overdriven guitar and sultry aria. The two are based out of Brooklyn and are playing only a few scattered upcoming dates – I’m guessing with the incredible reception they’re receiving from their debut album Treats they’ll be looking to capitalise with a global tour, so keeping ears out for that. For now at least, enjoy

Stars

My favourite band Stars have released a film clip to their latest single Fixed off of the soon to be released The Five Ghosts which you can order in all varieties bar holographic mug from their store (as a side note Stars always have made great band shirts and the eerie set they have for this album is no exception).  As for this track I can’t say it’s their best, but it is easy to listen to and I think that’s what you want for the first single off a new album – it’ll draw people in.

They’re currently touring across the states but you’ll have to be quick to grab tix as they’re selling out most venues. Enjoy
