French Kicks

I was reading this and laughing which led me to reading this and fondly recalling the Kicks and their beautiful music and then I decided to share.  I don’t believe the guys are up to anything collaboratively at the moment, they all seem to be doing their own solo things. So no tour info but we do have a healthy course of

I lose myself everytime

by Reece

teenagersintokyo

Three and a half minutes of new wave from Sydneysiders teenagersintokyo ticks all the boxes for an  adrenaline injection of Shiny Toy Guns quality riffs and vocals – and I do enjoy me some STGs. This track is off their self titled EP available here and also on their debut LP Sacrifice being released on their UK label. By the by, check this awesome video to the title track opening their website – both beautiful and brutal. They’re currently doing the European thing so go check ‘em out if you can, and

Don’t, honestly it’ll only get you down

by Reece

Deep Sea Arcade

So I thought I’d give my fellow aussies Deep Sea Arcade some a-life lovin’. They’ve been getting a lot of air-play on JJJ for their single Lonely In Your Arms (Brilliant video!) which is just as poppy & catchy. This here is a solid effort though, I don’t know if it’s the church alter acoustics, the forefront tambourine or the unwavering drum rhythm ala (sp?) Ringo that makes these guys sound very Beatles in this recording – but I like it.

And I’m trying out Soundcloud instead of FileDen with this track – see how this goes.

Another hung Philly Jay

Philadelphia Grand Jury

Welcome, welcome to the blog my Aussie-based brethren The Philadelphia Grand Jury. The boys from left to right are Calvin, Berkfinger, and MC Bad Genius – true story. And this is their most played track over the alternative airways of JJJ. It’s a pop-punk\piano-rock\power-piece which leaves that sweet ‘aww shucks’ feeling in your tummy upon listening. At its core its a get down and boogie opener to any live set and for this reason you should listen. Coz everyone could use a bit more boogie in their lives.

“I could be standing on the shadow of your ghost! You wouldn’t tell me and I think that hurts the most”

Like… you know

by Reece

The Like

We’re all a bit incestuous. True story. Or at least we are according to the gorgeous four LA ladies who make up The Like.  This off their Release Me album – the girls at the moment touring the states + Toronto being received well. This is catchy, as much as I can’t stand all girl ‘spoken’ harmonies, this is still pulled off and although it might not be the next indie anthem – I could see it played out on whatever teen soapy is being spun these-days. The OC right? Get it

Minus The Bear – My Time (Live @ WNRN)

Minus The Bear

Swell live version of Omni’s third single put to tape @ Virginian WNRN. Back to the roots stuff for MtB with the no-nonsense sexual innuendo, or is that just reality as  Jake’s not trying hard to mask it. Download

Wolf Parade – Ghost Pressure + What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had To Go This Way)

by Reece

Wolf Parade - Expo 86

Awesome new stuff from Wolf Parade, the very talented lads who make up the meat of Sunset Rubdown and Handsome Furs among many others. Released into the wild wild webs these two tracks will get you amped for their third full length Expo 86 (check the cover above) and it’s been a long time between drinks – no Duran Duran pun going here.

I don’t know if I’ve got more complicated since first here Queen Mary but these two feel a lot more accessible than what’s come before, maybe they’re aiming for a more mainstream presence. Either way you might get a chance to ask them yourself if you go along to one of their shows – they’re playing a ton of dates across Europe, Canada, the States and back through the UK. Download

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric (Acoustic)

by Reece

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

So they released the deluxe version of It’s Blitz! and with it this delicate four minute moment performed by Karen O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase on what sounds like a jangly tambourine (not sure who’s on the violin). I always liked this song, really enjoyed hearing it performed live with my baby but this acoustic rendition makes it step off the pages like it never did before. Download this sweet piece
