And You Will Learn

Aquarium Drunkard pays for the limo, arranges the tux and pops the cork on Television’s second album from 1978 - Adventure. The blog turned home grown independent record label gathered the cream of LaLa lands current musical talent (plus Lykke Li) and got them to pay tribute with covers to the NYC punks. Enter

So this is the first post I’ve made in quite a while. Almost two months… and it’s nothing new or out of the box, but a good song nonetheless. This is Whitley – the melbourne based bard who wrote his first release to the deadlines of the Cats for and against and the up and down of the tide. Nothing fancy with this one, just try this aussie on for size if you haven’t already (six months ago or more). Download the feel good anthem

We are here, it seems we always must have seen a dark black fear and nothing ever seems so clear. The sun will not be here and I know my life has an end. The sun will not be here, the questions remain in my head – so I’ll fall head, first, down
This takes a while to get going but it’s beautiful when it does. If you’re into The Postal Service or even a little Owl City then try Freelance Whales on for size. More organic than the synthy bee-bop of the later and that’s welcome for sure. It’s a modest round of harmonies that lead into the crescendo and by that time you’ve forgotten how soft it had all started.
They’re from Queens in NYC, they enjoy playing their music and I doubt they’d mind me sharing that with you. So download the pleaseantries and have a listen

“Yeah, I know it’s late, but these times won’t wait”
Wow on this, big wow folks. Cleast Eatwood – have really stripped back this cover of everyone’s favourite, MGMT’s Electric Feel. I had to let my girl listen to it just to hear her reaction; “It’s fantastic.” I’ll let her review speak for mine. Download

“You can feel it in your mind, you can do it all the time. Plug it in, change the world – you, my electric girl.”
So this floated into my inbox the other day and (unfortunately) I only just got around to listening, worth the wait I tell you. Pearl and the Beard – are Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy from NYC and they bring good times to the table in the form of great vocal harmony, sparse yet strong guitar-work and a cello as unforgiving as the tale they tell. This masterpiece off God Bless Your Weary Soul, Amanda Richardson could hold it’s own as the end-note to any epic-movie montage, (I’m thinking Forrest Gump, or maybe that’s just the southern soul coming through in the vocals). They’re on their way down to SXSW with some stops along the way. Make your ears happy and download
